Platform Extensibility

Unified out of the box, open at its core.

Most platforms make you choose: move fast with a closed suite, or go composable and build everything yourself. Either way, you end up with the worst of both. EVA approaches this completely differently. Built for complex enterprise retail, it arrives ready to run and every layer stays open. Over 1,600 services, SDKs in several languages, from the shop floor to the general ledger.

EVA Unified Commerce Platform

The trade-off you're told to accept

Breaking free of a legacy stack should not mean trading agility for robustness.

Enterprise retail architecture rarely arrived by design. It grew, one strong system at a time, until agility and control started pulling in opposite directions. We know that struggle well, so let us walk the road most retailers are on, and show you where it forks.

Where most enterprise retail is today: The Frankenstack. Decades of best-of-breed choices, each strong in its own domain, stitched together with an enterprise service bus and an integration layer that quietly became systems of their own. It works, and it got you here. But every process lives behind the glass of its own application, context is lost at every seam, and a single change ripples across the whole estate. Agility gets expensive when your architecture is a museum of good decisions.

So you decide to modernise

The market hands you two roads, and each one asks you to give something up.

The composable road

Composable and MACH promise freedom, and they deliver it. But you assemble the platform yourself, and you take on the enterprise-grade robustness, integrity, and reliability that retail at scale demands. For a global operation, that is rarely a project. It becomes an endless trajectory.

The composable road

The specialized road

Specialized out-of-the-box suites give you clean, manageable tools that go live in weeks. But the logic and the context sit behind glass. You gain a tidy application and lose the freedom to shape it, and the platform's context rarely travels with you when you try to reach past it.

The specialized road

The way out

Both roads ask for a compromise, EVA was built to refuse it

EVA was built for exactly this retailer: the one who wants out-of-the-box speed, enterprise-grade robustness, and the freedom to open any layer. Ready to run where you want it, open where you need it. Not a point solution you will outgrow, but a platform built to carry a global operation and still bend to yours.

EVA Unified Commerce Platform Services

One core that keeps going layer on layer until the only thing left to add is you

1,600+ services, in full context

Nearly every process a unified retailer runs, as one connected core. Not loose microservices you wire together, but services that already know the full retail picture. They are the foundation for EVA's own intuitive apps and the headless tooling behind every one of your commerce endpoints.

Built to run the world, not just a website

What good is a service when you transact across 1,700 stores in 30 countries and run a global website in 30 languages? EVA does not stop at the service. It handles full fiscalisation in more than 45 countries, orchestrated end to end, from the order line through to the general ledger export into your ERP.

The retail process, packaged into apps

And what would it be worth if you then spent years building point of sale systems for every country and region? So EVA packages its services into App Suite, a set of apps that take the whole retail process off your hands. One power package to roll out across every store in the world.

Everything you need to go further than we did

We do not stop there, because we want you to build beyond what we thought of. Over 1,600 services, SDKs in several languages, event exports, and data lake exports give you everything to integrate, use, and build on, fully headless.

Thousands of settings, run from a single point

So you never drown in a web of services or come up short on the one rule your business needs. No two retailers are the same, so the platform carries thousands of settings that shape how its services and apps behave, tuned to your exact process. The EVA admin portal runs a global operation from one place. Not an instance per region or per country, but one platform to run them all.

Still not enough?

You can reshape EVA itself.

EVA Scripting lets you extend nearly every capability the platform has. Which is exactly where we go next.
EVA Scripting
EVA Scripting

Pricing, promotions, and routing that follow your rules

EVA ships sensible defaults for every retail flow. When those aren't enough, its scripting engine takes over. Written in plain English and built into Admin Suite, it powers every core retail process. Your rules become part of the platform and are reflected across every application.

EVA Data Model
Flexible data model

Extend EVA's data model with Custom Fields to fit your downstream systems

Your operation carries data EVA has never heard of, so add it. Custom fields extend every part of the platform and become first-class values you can use in scripts to power decisions and behaviour.

EVA Admin Suite
Adaptive interfaces

Back office and store apps shaped around the role, not the manual

Admin Suite covers compliance, financials, orders, stock, promotions, and product information, with each module adapting to the role that uses it. On the shop floor, EVA App Suite follows Apple's Human Interface Guidelines, making it instantly familiar and easy to use.

Every action in EVA is an event your systems can respond to

Real-time event exports

Structured events pushed to your systems as they occur, so your stack reacts in step with the shop floor.

Data lake exports

Your data delivered to your own data warehouse in query-ready packs, to report on with your own tools, on your terms.

Async callback notifications

Long-running work signals its own completion, so integrations never sit and poll for an answer.

Entity field validators

Enforce your own data rules on any field through scripting, without ever touching the core.

FAQ

Questions? We're here to help

Can EVA be customised without changing the core platform?

Yes. EVA is designed so retailers and system integrators can extend every layer, including business logic, data model, events, and interfaces, without modifying the platform core. The scripting engine handles custom pricing, routing, and validation rules. Custom fields extend the data model. Webhooks and the open API connect EVA to external systems in real time. Changes go live when you are ready, not when the next platform release ships.

How many extension points does EVA's scripting engine have?

EVA's scripting engine currently exposes 69 extension points across pricing, payments, fulfillment routing, order validation, compliance, monitoring, surveys, and more. These include PaymentTypeAvailability, CheckOrderValidation, OrderCustomType, OrderCustomStatus, ShippingRestriction, and AntiMoneyLaunderingValidation, among others. Scripts are created and managed in Admin Suite or via API. No separate development environment is required.

Which entity types support custom fields in EVA?

Custom fields can be added to 13 entity types: Order, Order line, Organisation unit, Promotion, User, Wishlist, Shipment, Shipping method, Task, Case, Repair, Company, and Loyalty program. Custom fields are managed in Admin Suite and can be used as inputs for scripting logic, making them active parts of your business rules rather than passive data storage.

Does EVA integrate with ERP systems like SAP or Microsoft Dynamics?

Yes. EVA integrates with ERP systems via middleware, running in production at multiple enterprise retailers. SAP is in use at Dyson and G-Star. Microsoft Dynamics is in use at Rituals and Scotch and Soda. Infor M3 is confirmed at one additional customer. EVA handles order orchestration and commerce logic while the ERP continues to manage financials, product data, and procurement.

Can EVA work alongside an existing warehouse management system?

Yes. EVA integrates with existing warehouse management systems via middleware. EVA handles order orchestration, routing logic, and customer-facing fulfillment. The WMS manages intra-warehouse operations and reports fulfilment status back to EVA. EVA re-orchestrates automatically on exceptions such as mispicks. Running in production at KIKO with CEVA Logistics and Rituals with Arvato.

What is EVA's API surface for system integrators?

EVA exposes 2,500+ API services at portal.newblack.io/api-reference. The API covers the full platform: orders, inventory, payments, customers, promotions, loyalty, and more. EVA also supports real-time event exports via webhooks and async callback notifications, meaning external systems can react to platform events without polling. A sandbox environment is available on request for implementation partners.

Is EVA a customizable unified commerce platform for enterprise retailers?

Yes. EVA is a unified commerce platform built for Tier 1 enterprise retailers that requires deep extensibility. The platform is designed to be shaped around each retailer's processes, data model, and technology stack. Extensibility spans the scripting engine, custom data model, open API, webhook architecture, and a certified partner ecosystem covering payments, ERP, WMS, RFID, fraud prevention, and tax.

How does EVA support retail platform extensibility for system integrators?

System integrators can extend EVA through multiple layers. The scripting engine provides 69 extension points for custom business logic without core code changes. Custom fields extend the data model across 13 entity types. The open API with 2,500+ services covers every platform domain. Webhooks enable real-time event-driven integrations. A sandbox environment is available on request for pre-production testing.
